Hello everyone! Yes- I haven't written a book for a long while - BUT - I'm starting to want to write a book again!
29 August 2026
I've have had "Writers Block" since basically 31st August 2016 - when at 1130 pm, I reivd a phone call from the ajacent aged care to our retirement village - advising me that my beloved Dave (Dave Laing) had finally passed away!!
My first reaction was "He's finally at Peace" after battling for 12 months, after being diagnoged with stage 4 Cancer back in October 2015. He had been so well for five years, after I donated my left kidney to him, when he wa diagnosed with Kidney failure - which his father in Scotland had died from many years ago.
During his last months in Palliative care in the aged care next door, I visited him every day with our new dog - Vicky a black Greyhound - who became my best therapy dog ever - as Greyhounds have lovely calm natures. Plus she had never raced - while her family had won over one million dollars!! When I adopted her from the GAP program (Greyhound Adoption Program) for a whole $75.00 !! Yes! that's al for a purebred Greyhound - neutered & vaccinated & alread trained on a lead etc. The GAP person who took my money - saw my paperwork as a Professional Dog Trainer - and gave me his mobile - "Let me now why she never raced Wendy".
The next morning I phoned him - " She's afraid of the dark!" he laughed - I told him how she loved the doggy door in the back window - where she could go in and out when she wantedionto our back yeard - but when night deended - she was too frightened to go outside!
Nine years later - she's a favourite visitor to the aged care - and also during occasional visits to the nearby Northern Hospital - where the staff love her visits as much as a patient from our retirement village that we visited.
Vicky has been my best buddy over the last nine years. She has taken over Dave's side of the bed eah night -(thank goodness, it's a King Size bed!)
I volunteered to give Dave a kidney, straight away, when his spedialist diagnosed him with Kidney Failure. My blood is O Neg and Dave's O Pos - as we were both blood donors at Tullamarine Airport where we both worked. I also donated Plazma at Christmas time - to help the victims of car accidents etc. as I'm a Universal Donor. I'm no longer donating - I'm 81 years old now! (giggle) However - when the RMH requested a third tissue test from us - when double checking me as a suitable donor - we both naturally aske 'Why?" The response was - " We decided on a thrid one to triple check the result! you two have broken a record here as husband and wife! All the results were the same - 98.5% compatable - like siblings!!! EEK! We both laughed! We promised to check out our ancestry on my fathers side - and on his mothers side - My ancestry is on Geni.com and Dave's mother's on a paper scroll in a container in the passageway in the back of the house!
We both knew that we had royal ancestry, when we married - but hadn't really bothered to sheck how we moght be related - however when we checked - we found tht we were 13th cousins! Tissue matches are far more accurate than a simple family memeber etc.
Years later, I made a comment on the officia UK Royal site - re Camilla visiting schools to talk to parents and advising them to make their children read at home - and not only just at school - I basically stated
"Well done - as I was originally a primary teacher before my main career in travel industry and working for two international airlines- Well done Cuz!"
oops! I knew she was related to me too - as we as , of course to Prince Charles - but i coudnt' delate the Cuz! Ho Hum! the next day - I received a private text message from Prince Charles, asking me if I could send him my family tree - I replied - that I'd send it via email - so he could print it our etc - adn he gave me his private email - the day after I sent it I received anothe message - "Wow- we are related! Hello Cuz! And I'm geneologicaly closer to you than your dear late husband Dave - who is also my cousin! As i'm your 12th couin once rem!"
Years later after coninued chats with each other - King Charles has offered me a lovely future with Vicky - living in the UK with all my roya cousins! I'm now waiting for Prince William to come here as promised to meet me and Vicky to prove that I'm not being scammed!
That's our possible Twilight Years living happiy with family around us - instead of here - I have no relatives nearby - my nearest on my father's side is in Sydney - and on my mothers side - down at Poin Lonsdale on the southern Coast!
I'm now beginning to write here happily - so maybe a new book will becon me in my head to to fingers onto the keyboard once again - as this Monday, 31st August is the 10th Anniversary of my beloved Dave's passing!!
cheers
Wendy Laing
